Well, this afternoon was easily our most exciting afternoon
in Dayton. We got done with work early, and we were planning on going back to
the base after dinner for Tattoo. However, when we got back home, a small but
particularly violent thunderstorm blew through the area. Apparently several
people at Tattoo were hurt and a lot of equipment there was damaged, so Tattoo
was cancelled.
Where was I while this violent storm was happening? I was
standing out in the middle of our apartment’s parking lot because my wonderful
roommate had just driven off with my apartment keys. It was actually a pretty
cool little storm, but unfortunately it didn’t last very long. It kind of
reminded me of home for a minute, though.
Since Tattoo* wasn’t an option, we decided to continue our
search for Dayton’s best pizza. We’re going to a different place every Friday,
in search of that one elusive restaurant that has the green door with the red
neon sign saying “PIZZA” hanging above it. After taking one bite of tonight’s
pizza, Duke and I immediately knew that it wasn’t it. Maybe next Friday we’ll
finally find the pizza.
*Why does the Air Force call their Fourth of July
celebration Tattoo? That’s bothering me.
One other consequence of the thunderstorm that I forgot to
mention is that our power went out. I don’t know what’s up with the utility
company here, but they don’t seem to be too interested in fixing the problem.
It’s been about six hours now and we’re still in the dark. Two weeks ago, this
wouldn’t have bothered me much, but now it’s a major problem. I’m going through
How I Met Your Mother withdraw. I don’t know what I’m going to do if the power
doesn’t come back on soon. Actually, I know what I’ll do. I’ll go to sleep.
Since the power is out, the internet here at Wright State is
also down. I’m not sure if they’ll get it back up tonight, so this post may not
be online until tomorrow. Hopefully that doesn’t happen.
