The power finally came back on tonight! It had only been off
for…53 hours. A thunderstorm left us without power for 53 hours.
We’ve decided that people in Dayton are even worse at coping
with weather than people in Houston are.* Today it was in the low 90s here, and
the local TV stations had a “heat advisory” warning on the bottom of the
screen. It would have been a cool summer day in Houston, but apparently people
here need to be warned when it’s above 90 degrees outside. Oh, and a short
thunderstorm knocked out power for 53 hours. Pathetic.
*People in Houston put ice on the sidewalks when it’s 40
degrees outside.
The most important thing that happened today, obviously, is
that we were able to resume watching How I Met Your Mother. We’re more than halfway
through season four now, but we have a lot of lost time to make up for after
the power outage.
Before the power came back on, we spent the afternoon at
Buffalo Wild Wings watching the final of the European Championships. Then we
went downtown to check out the folk music festival. We didn’t really listen to
much of the music, but we walked around the nice part of downtown.** The folk
music festival had a lot of food trucks that looked really good, but
unfortunately neither of us was hungry after spending the afternoon at Buffalo
Wild Wings.
**The nice part of downtown Dayton is the region bordered to
the north by the area with racist rednecks and to the south by the area with
the barking man.
The festival was supposed to have fireworks over the river
at ten, but we couldn’t really find anything to do while we waited for two
hours, so we decided to skip the fireworks. We found a common area on campus where we could use the
internet and charge our phones, and while we were there we were told that our apartment’s
power was back on. So, we immediately drove back to our apartment, and we’ve
been watching How I Met Your Mother ever since.
