G38
We were awakened this morning* by the soothing sound of the fire alarm going off in
our apartment. Well, I was awakened; Duke stayed in bed. Anyways, the fire alarms were
going off, and I could smell smoke in my room. I got up, grabbed some clothes, and went
down to hang out with our roommates in the parking lot. After a few minutes, it became
apparent that Duke wasn’t going to get up on his own. Everyone else had evacuated the
building, and it was clear that something was actually on fire. So, I heroically went back
into the apartment, braving the smoke and heat to save my roommate. It turns out he was
awake; he was just too lazy to get out of bed.
*At 1:30 am, so right after I fell asleep.
Apparently somebody down on the first floor had been cooking and set something on
fire. The fire trucks came and the campus police told us we could go back into our rooms,
which would have been cool, except our rooms smelled like smoke. We didn’t get back
to sleep until around 3.
Speaking of setting things on fire while cooking, Duke set off our smoke detectors again
tonight while he was boiling hot dogs for dinner. I don’t know how it’s even possible
to set off smoke detectors while boiling hot dogs, but Duke is apparently bad enough at
cooking that he can manage it.
